믿음 / 예연(砅涓)

이 땅에서 맨 처음 성경을 읽은 첫 예수교 신자 흥부는 주걱으로 뺨 맞고

 “아이고! 형수님 한 번 더”하고 다른 쪽 뺨을 내밀지요

그 형수 놀부 처는 밥 한 톨도 아까워 주걱을 싹 씻어 시동생 뺨 내려치지요. 

 

나는 보았습니다

십자가 아래 큰 교회 옆을 꾀죄죄한 여인네가 어린애를 업고 지나갑니다

동냥을 구하는 듯한데 누구 하나 거들떠보지 않습니다.

저들에게는 성전이란 웅장한 건물 안으로 들어가는 것이 더 급항가 봅니다

 

저 여인네가 혹시 어린 예수 업은 성모 마리아는 아닐까? 

2000년 전 예수는 분명 저런 모습으로 왔을 텐데

만약 내가 나중에 그분 만나 

“너는 동냥하는 엄마 등에 업힌 어린 내 모습 보았느냐?” 물으면  

대답할 수 있는 삶을 나는 지금 사는가?.

내가 그 성경 말씀 활자만 읽고 있는 것은 아닌가?

행간을 보지 못하는 어리석음을 범하고 있지나 않은지 알 수가 없다.

나는 언제 이 집을 다 짓고 내부 의장을 마무리할까?

 

1. Faith / Yeyeon (砅涓)

[믿음 / 예연]

Heungbu, the first Christian in this land to read the Bible,
was slapped on the cheek with a rice paddle.
He simply offered the other cheek, crying,
“Oh, sister-in-law! One more time, please.”
His sister-in-law, Nolbu’s wife, hating to waste even a single grain of rice,
washed the paddle clean before striking her brother-in-law’s other cheek.

 

I witnessed it—
Near a grand church beneath the cross,
a shabby woman passed by with a child on her back.
She seemed to be seeking alms,
but not a single soul spared her a glance.

To them, entering the magnificent building called the 'Holy Temple' was more urgent.

 

Could that woman be the Virgin Mary carrying the infant Jesus?
Two thousand years ago, Jesus surely arrived in such a lowly form.
If I meet Him later and He asks me,
“Did you see me as a little child on the back of a mother begging for coins?”
Am I living a life now that can answer that question?
Am I merely reading the printed letters of the Scripture?
I do not know if I am committing the folly of failing to read between the lines.
When will I finish building this house of mine and complete its interior design?
